There are many people who have gone out from St Michael's to serve in countries all around the world. Here are just a few with whom we have links:

Ed and Sarah were both students in St Michael's. They are now in Sucre in Bolivia with Food for the Hungry. They are presently learning Spanish before embarking on the work that awaits them. (http://www.fh.org/)

Historical Research

There is constant interest in the churchyard by historians and those who are researching their family tree. We have facsimile copies of the registers of the church which can be viewed by appointment. The originals are held by the National Library of Wales. Their staff are exceptionally helpful when they received enquiries from the public [The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales SY23 3BU, Tel: +44 (0)1970 632 800 Fax: +44 (0)1970 615 709 and their website: http://www.llgc.org.uk/]

Funerals

These are usually arranged by the funeral directors on behalf of the bereaved family. We no longer have any burial space in the old churchyard which was closed many years ago. Subsequently, it has been landscaped and made into a rose garden and leisure area.

However, funeral services regularly take place in St. Michael’s which are followed by interment in the town cemetery or a committal service in the local crematorium. We do have a small garden of remembrance for the burial of ashes together with a book of remembrance in which the names are recorded. Please contact us through th

Weddings

St. Michael’s Church is an attractive and sought-after venue for weddings. We welcome enquiries and do all that we can to make these ceremonies into very special events. We can only offer our facilities to those who live within the boundaries of the parish of Aberystwyth and/or who worship regularly with us and are on our electoral roll.

There is a preparation course which is put on every year for those who are intending to marry in our church. The material was prepared by Holy Trinity Church in Brompton [Holy Trinity Brompton, Brompton Rd
London, SW7 1JA, Phone 0845 644 7533 or email getconnected@htb.org.uk]. It runs for 5 weeks and covers issues such as our expectations of one another, dealing with conflict, the physical side of marriage, coping with in-laws etc. Please contact the church office for information about courses and to arrange an initial interview [01970 617184]

Baptisms

Our congregation represents very varying views on baptism. Some are convinced that baptism is only for adults and by full immersion. We do have an immersion baptistery in the church which is used regularly throughout the year.

However there are those who are happy to have their babies and infants baptised by sprinkling, and this can be arranged to happen either privately as a family event or, preferably, during the course of our morning service.

Vision Statement

Recovering His Reputation

Where it came from

I was sitting at a table in one of the cafés in town when a man at the next table had the baguette he had ordered delivered to him. It was massive. Without thinking he said to his wife, ‘Jesus Christ! Look at that!’ It was on that day that our vision statement took a little more shape.

There was a time in Wales when such a thing would never have been said, because of the reverence and respect in which Jesus was held by all. We want to recover the honour of his name in our town of Aberystwyth and wherever we have influence across the nation.
